Starting next school year, Valencian high school students will have a new elective course available: “European Union. “ The Regional Minister of Education, Culture, and Universities, Carmen Ortí, has confirmed that the Regional Government is finalizing the procedures for the Regional Council to approve its inclusion in the high school curriculum for the 2026-27 academic year.
The course, which is elective and has a competency-based and practical approach, will address the historical development of the European Union, its institutional architecture, common policies, the rights and duties of European citizens, and the opportunities that the European project offers to young people.
As Ortí explained, the goal is “to offer a comprehensive and multidisciplinary view of the European project, to familiarize students with its institutions and values, and to foster both democratic awareness and civic participation.”
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the First Meeting of European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPAS) in the Valencian Community, held at the Teatro Principal in Valencia and organized by the Regional Secretariat for Representation to the European Union together with the Europe Direct offices of the Valencian Community and the Provincial Council of Castellón.
“At a time when the values that define us are often under strain, European education is not a curricular embellishment: it is a democratic necessity,” stated the minister.
