Camp de Mestalla is, above all else, the home of Valencia C.F. It’s their home, their sanctuary. It’s the place where the chés—as their fans are affectionately known—come to enjoy the game and, with any luck, cheer on a goal or two. However, Camp de Mestalla is much more than just a soccer field. It hosts concerts, large-scale events, and serves as a museum dedicated to Valencia C.F. In this article, we’ll tell you everything about this stadium. Take note!

What else can you do at Camp de Mestalla?
Candlelight Concerts at Camp de Mestalla
Candlelight, the series of candlelit concerts that has been lighting up some of Valencia’s most beautiful locations for several years now, has also made its way to Camp de Mestalla. And it did so with a tribute to Coldplay, the British rock band that won us all over with their “Viva La Vida.”
Thanks to this partnership, Valencia C.F. fans and music lovers have access to the VIP box at Mestalla Stadium for a concert that’s nothing short of unforgettable. Of course, depending on the ticket option chosen, they’ll be seated in different sections of the box with varying levels of visibility of the stage.

Neon Brush
In addition to Candlelight concerts and guided tours, Camp de Mestalla is home to other fascinating experiences. Neon Brush is one of them.
It’s a neon painting workshop that, after taking cities like Madrid and London by storm, has made a grand entrance in Valencia. There, you can paint whatever you like and let your creativity run wild while enjoying a couple of drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). A perfect plan to enjoy with family or friends.
Fun Facts About Mestalla Stadium
Valencia Club de Fútbol’s home stadium is full of interesting facts. Here are our favorites!
1. Valencia C.F. was founded in a bar
The articles of incorporation were drafted at the now-defunct Bar Torino on March 1, 1919. It was former members of other clubs in the city—primarily Club Deportivo Español—who took the plunge and decided to found this now-legendary team.
2. Mestalla wasn’t the club’s first stadium
Before Mestalla Stadium, there was the Campo de Algirós, Valencia C.F.’s first home. It was named after the road on which it was located. However, in 1923—four years after the club’s founding—Valencia C.F. began playing at Mestalla, making it one of the oldest stadiums in Spain.
3. It was a concentration camp
During the Spanish Civil War, the Mestalla Stadium served as a concentration camp and a scrap yard. This left it severely damaged, and with practically only the structure still standing, it was quickly rebuilt.
4. It suffered extensive damage from a flood
In 1950, work began on expanding the stadium. Mestalla went from holding about 25,000 people to accommodating 45,500. However, in 1957, due to a major flood, the stadium suffered some damage that forced another renovation, which included the installation of electric lighting.
5. It changed its name for 25 years
From 1969 to 1994, Camp de Mestalla was called Estadio Luis Casanova, in honor of one of its former presidents. It was Luis Casanova himself who requested that the name be changed back to its original one.
6. It has hosted historic finals
Like any legendary soccer stadium, Camp de Mestalla has witnessed some of the most thrilling finals in sports history. It hosted the 1982 World Cup final, ten Copa del Rey finals, and several soccer matches during the 1992 Olympic Games.

Camp de Mestalla is, without a doubt, one of the most important soccer temples in our country. It has undergone changes—in name and infrastructure—but its essence remains: it is the home of Valencia C.F. and the setting for some of the best events in the capital.
