The Port of Catarroja will host this Sunday, September 21, another edition of the XII Harvest Festival, organized by the Denomination of Origin Rice of Valencia. The event, which will run throughout the day, will enjoy boat rides on the Albufera, culinary demonstrations in money and paella at popular prices.
The 2025 edition will pay tribute to the countryside and its traditions with a special guest: the Valencian actor Arturo Valls, who will be named Reaper of Honor 2025.
The festive day will begin early in the morning with a bird watching visit to the Tancat de la Pipa (8:45 a.m.) and boat trips on the lake (from 9:30 a.m., by reservation).
The main event will take place at mid-morning with a demonstration of manual mowing. About twenty farmers, dressed in traditional costumes, will recreate the ancestral work of harvesting, threshing and threshing in a rice field set up in the port, all to the sound of La Muixeranga del Carraixet.
While the harvest takes place, the Cant de Batre contest will be held, a work song without musical accompaniment that farmers used to sing to liven up the long days in the fields.
Gastronomy will be another of the pillars of the festival. At 10:30 am, the chef Eva Davó, from the restaurant La Cantina de Ruzafa, will offer a showcooking in which she will reveal the secrets of cooking rice with duck, cuttlefish and crab.
In addition, the “Túnel del Arroz” (Rice Tunnel) will be inaugurated, a space to taste the creations of outstanding Valencian restaurants.
In this twelfth edition, the organization will also dedicate a moment to pay tribute to the victims of the dana that affected the region last October.
Around midday, and after the presentation of the award to Arturo Valls, rice rations will be served for 5 euros.
The celebration will conclude with performances by the dance group La Chicalla and the music of Tres Fan Ball.
