The Royal Spanish Academy defines “to study” as “to exercise one’s understanding to attain or comprehend something,” a concept that, if viewed through the lens of 30 or 40 years ago, boils down to poring over a book or doing math problems. But the concept has evolved so much that today we can imagine it in ways as diverse as traveling back in time with virtual reality goggles or solving an escape room using mathematical logic.
With this philosophy in mind, FuturSTEAM was created—an educational and technological experience designed to teach the STEAM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) through an innovative, fun, and inspiring approach. This event is available throughout the month of August at the Espai Baladre on Gandía Beach, and general admission is just 1 euro per person.
Hours of operation are from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Please note that many activities are not included in the price, and reservations must be made through their website. If you plan to participate in as many activities as possible, there’s a “VIP package” that grants you unlimited access for 20 euros.
The exhibition is designed for all audiences ages 5 and up. The goal is to foster interest in technology and other creative disciplines, but it is not limited to children; it also offers activities such as a journey through the history of arcade video games and the opportunity to connect with companies and organizations in the technology sector.
Build your own robot, develop a video game, or explore Gandía in Minecraft
The tour consists of ten interactive spaces, some of which are open throughout the entire operating hours, while others are divided into groups and time slots.
Admission to the event includes the LEGO exhibition: a journey built with blocks from the iconic franchise, featuring automated vehicles and an interactive puzzle to uncover the piece thieves. Another activity related to building with LEGO blocks is the basic robotics workshop.
Although it’s not the only space that introduces us to the principles of mechanics and electronics: building a Canterito robot takes it a step further, and you can even take the robot home with you when you’re done.
The famous building video game, Minecraft, also has its place in the exhibition with two activities: a series of challenges to test knowledge of the game and a cooperative adventure on a map that simulates Gandía Beach.
The exhibition also features an arcade area where you can explore the history of video games and enjoy classic arcade games. Or, if you’re looking for a more futuristic experience, you can travel to the International Space Station through virtual reality.
