Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has announced the implementation of a new metro and tram schedule for the entire month of August. Starting this Monday, all Metrovalencia lines will operate on the Saturday schedule Monday through Friday as well.
This change affects only weekdays, as the weekend schedule remains unchanged. The night service on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of holidays will also remain unchanged, continuing to operate at the same frequency as during the rest of the year.
The new schedule reduces the frequency of metro and tram service by 33% compared to the rest of the year. FGV attributes this reduction in service to the drop in ridership during the month of August, due primarily to the vacation season.
Consumer groups disagree
However, the measure has sparked disagreement with organizations such as the Valencian Association for Public Transportation (AVPTP), which is calling for the service to be tailored to the needs of each line, since many passengers still need to commute to work as usual.
The AVPTP argues that the change is disproportionate, since the number of riders is decreasing by 25% while service is being reduced by a greater percentage (33%). Furthermore, implementing the Saturday schedule means that the first trains of the day depart later than usual, affecting riders who start work earlier.
Lines 4, 6, and 8 implemented this new schedule in mid-June, coinciding with the end of the school and university year, so passengers using these lines will not notice any change in the schedule compared to recent weeks. Those who need to check detailed schedules and frequencies can do so on the Metrovalencia website, on its social media accounts, or via the official app.
