The summer of 2026 will be remembered as one of the hottest on record in Valencia—a trend that extends across the entire country and even throughout Europe. Although it has been less than a month since the start of the season, record-breaking temperatures have already been recorded, and heat waves are following one after another.
This week is no exception, and it is also accompanied by other weather phenomena that have prompted the State Meteorological Agency and the 112 Emergency Center to issue a red alert .
Although we’re already in the midst of this new spell of high temperatures, according to the AEMET, the worst days will be Wednesday, July 15, and Thursday, July 16. In some parts of the province, temperatures are expected to reach up to 43 degrees, compounded by a large dust cloud coming from North Africa.
The high temperatures, combined with humidity and haze, will also affect nighttime heat , with a heat index exceeding 30 degrees in the city of Valencia and other parts of the province. If forecasts hold true, temperatures are expected to ease and atmospheric conditions to improve between Friday and Saturday .
Red Alert for Heat, Dry Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds
The AEMET has already issued a dual red alert for tomorrow (Wednesday, July 15) : one for extreme temperatures across much of the province of Valencia and another for the risk of coastal phenomena, dry thunderstorms, dust devils, and very strong wind gusts. The Agency also notes that these phenomena may occur in very specific situations and locations, but warns of the need to be prepared for any emergency.
