The València City Council will address this Tuesday during the Culture Commission the proposal to rename the esplanade of the avenue d’Aragó, where the Monument to the victims of the floods stands, as “Plaza de las víctimas de la dana de 29 de octubre de 2024″, in tribute to the deceased and affected by the devastating floods of last October 29 in the south of the city.
This name change will only affect the landscaped section where the monument is located and not the sidewalks of the avenue. In this way, residents and merchants will not be forced to change their address or business information.
The monument in this square was inaugurated in 1982, the work of sculptor Ramón de Soto Arándiga, and commemorates the tragic floods of 1957 and earlier in the city of Valencia.
The monument, made of artificial stone by formwork and very schematic lines in two rectilinear bodies that rise 16 meters almost vertically, was made in a very short time and is located on the esplanade of the old Estació d’Aragó.
