This Monday, February 17, begins in Valencia a control and awareness campaign on the use of electric scooters to improve road safety in the city. The Local Police of Valencia, according to the established guidelines, will control that scooter users comply with several fundamental requirements to circulate in Valencia:
For example, it is mandatory to be over 16 years old, must wear an approved helmet, bell and lights, it is forbidden to ride on sidewalks, pedestrian streets, bus lanes, tunnels and roads with speed limit of 50 km/h. In addition, the use of cell phones and headphones is not allowed while driving.
This campaign aims to reduce accidents and improve the coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers in the public space.
It should be recalled that scooters marketed as of January 22 this year must have a certificate guaranteeing that they comply with all the indications regulated by the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) and that they have passed the relevant laboratory tests.
The campaign will conclude on February 28 and comes against a backdrop of an increase in traffic accidents involving electric scooters. In 2020, 414 road accidents involving scooters were recorded, a figure that has more than doubled in 2024, reaching 1,034 incidents, although the number has remained stable since 2023.
