The Caprilice brand’s semi-aged wine-infused cheese, produced by the Elche-based company Lácteos Segarra, has won a gold medal at the 2026 Championship of the Best Cheeses of Spain. The award was presented during the Salón Gourmet in Madrid, one of the leading events for the national gastronomic sector.
The jury, composed of 64 specialists, evaluated more than 800 entries from across the country in 20 different categories. Lácteos Segarra’s entry competed and won in the “Young Goat Pasteurized/Raw Milk” category.
Lácteos Segarra is a family-owned company based in Elche whose origins are linked to goat farming. The founding family formally established its cheese-making business in 1964.
Since then, it has maintained a production process that combines artisanal methods with industry advancements and markets its products under brands such as Caprillice, Keslay, and Illiqués.
According to the tasting notes, the award-winning cheese is characterized by its aging with red wine, which gives it a distinctive aroma. It has a firm yet semi-soft texture, with a flavor that balances the intensity of goat’s milk with the nuances of the wine.
This product represents the cheese-making identity of the Vega Baja del Segura region.
It can be found in delicatessens throughout the Valencian Community.
