The Valencian multinational Cecotec has reached an agreement with the Almussafes City Council to build one of Europe’s largest gigafactories. The project involves an initial investment of 150 million euros and will be dedicated to the construction of prefabricated homes, supported by the industry specialist Casas InHAUS (also based in Valencia).
The future plant is expected to produce around 6,000 homes per year and provide direct and indirect employment for some 4,000 people. The process is still in the planning stages, but work is already underway to expedite the acquisition of the land and begin construction.
In addition to the economic and employment boost this will provide for the sector, the construction of these homes could help ease pressure on the housing market, lower construction costs, and increase the supply of housing.
The factory will be located in a new industrial area spanning more than 515,000 square meters, a plot of land currently zoned as rural and owned by more than 180 different landowners. However, the City Council has already contacted the affected parties to acquire the land through direct purchase or expropriation.
Cecotec chose Almussafes for its road and rail connections, both of which provide direct access to the Port of Valencia and the Mediterranean Corridor, allowing the company to receive goods and export prefabricated homes more efficiently and at a lower cost.
