Since we are unfortunately experiencing the DANA in Valencia in 2024, humanitarian efforts cannot prevent disasters, but they can help us feel that we are not alone. And we find a recent example of this in Venezuela. Following the two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, that struck there on June 24, the international community has mobilized to help the affected areas in every way possible. Valencia is now joining these efforts with a benefit concert at the Ateneo Mercantil.
The initiative comes from Fever, which has adapted its Candlelight concert format into a charity event with the aim of donating the net proceeds directly to NGOs operating on the ground. It will take place on August 1 at 7:00 p.m. and, of course, by the light of thousands of candles.
The pro bono performance by Musical Sensus and the corporate contribution
The music will be performed by the group Musical Sensus, who will perform pro bono so that as much of the proceeds as possible can go to the victims. In terms of management, Fever is legally committed to making a subsequent corporate contribution equivalent to 100% of the concert’s net proceeds (defined as the ticket price minus applicable local taxes and payment processing fees) directly to local partner foundations.
A repertoire rooted in Venezuelan traditions and hope
The 60-minute concert program is designed both to pay tribute to Venezuelan music and to convey hope through iconic songs. Thus, the repertoire will include songs such as “Venezuela,” “Alma llanera” ( considered the country’s unofficial anthem), and universal anthems of resilience like “Hallelujah” and “Stand By Me.”
Far from trying to be an exclusive event, this concert is designed as a gathering where everyone feels part of the same initiative—whether you’re a member of the Venezuelan community looking to reconnect with your roots from afar, or you simply want to contribute to the recovery of the affected areas while enjoying a concert.
Valencia isn’t the only city Fever has chosen to host these Candlelight charity concerts. Others around the world are joining in as well, including Madrid, Barcelona, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Miami, and New York. Different accents and different time zones coming together from afar with a single goal: to help.
