The Department of Cultural Action, Heritage and Cultural Resources has started this Wednesday the works of the future Performing Arts Center “Bombalino” in the neighborhood of Cabanyal-Canyamelar.
“This will be a reference space for theater, children and performing arts in general. A real factory of cultural creation,” said Mayor María José Catalá during the launch of the works.
What will the “Bombalino” Performing Arts Center be like?
This project, valued at 4.5 million euros, is the largest budget and relevance of the cultural area of the Valencia City Council at this time.
The center will occupy a total area of 1,800 square meters, integrating the rehabilitation of old industrial buildings and the construction of an annex building in the Plaza de Calabuig. The works, which will last 15 months, will be completed in autumn 2026.
The space will have two main rooms: a multifunctional black room and a white rehearsal room, both soundproofed and adaptable. It will also include dressing rooms, storage rooms, workshop rooms, and an annex building with a cafeteria, offices, co-working spaces and fixed bleachers.
The two rooms will be isolated and soundproofed so that they can be used simultaneously without interference.
This center will join others already in the neighborhood, such as the Teatre El Musical, Reina 121 and soon the Museu de la Mar.
The center pays tribute to Gabriel Fariza “Bombalino”, a leading figure in puppet theater in Valencia and founder, along with Maite Miralles, of the theater “La Estrella”. His artistic legacy, focused on childhood and the pedagogy of the performing arts, will mark the identity of the new space.
