Valencia City Council has activated the safety protocol in response to the weather alert issued by the regional government, which places the city on orange alert due to strong gusts of wind.
This drastic measure means that, as of Thursday, February 5, 2026, all fenced parks and gardens in the city will be completely closed. The ban on access also extends to municipal cemeteries, seeking to avoid any risk of falling branches or trees that could endanger citizens.
Affected facilities and duration of the measure
The restriction does not only affect the promenade. According to municipal sources, any public facility located within these green spaces will remain closed while the alert is in effect.
How long will the closure last? The council has clarified that there is no set time for reopening: the gates will remain closed while the Emergency Coordination Center maintains the risk situation.
Outdoor sports suspended
The Municipal Sports Foundation (FDM) has joined in with the preventive measures and has ordered the suspension of all sporting activities planned in municipal outdoor facilities.
However, users of gyms and sports halls can rest assured: indoor facilities continue to operate normally, unless the evolution of the storm forces new decisions to be taken.
Advice for citizens
In view of this situation, the Fire Department and the City Council have issued a series of recommendations to prevent personal accidents on public roads. The Gardening Service has already been reinforced to deal with urgent incidents.
Residents are asked to exercise extreme caution and follow these guidelines:
- At home: Close and secure doors, windows, and awnings to prevent drafts that could cause glass breakage.
- On the street: Avoid walking in wooded areas (even if they are not fenced off) and stay away from walls, cornices, or scaffolding that could collapse.
- When driving: If you must drive, reduce your speed, especially when crossing viaducts or exposed areas.
The City Council will update information on the reopening of public spaces through its official channels and social media depending on how the storm develops in the coming hours.
