With the entire country suffering from the heat wave and thermometers hitting record highs, there is one town in the province of Valencia that is bucking the trend, where fans remain turned off at night. Bocairent, recognized by National Geographic magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful towns in Spain, recorded temperatures below 10 degrees in some parts of the town tonight.
Although during the sunniest hours, no one is spared. In some areas, such as the Rambla de Mariola, the nights remain cool. This specific spot recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the entire province of Valencia today, at 9.7 ºC.
Fairytale landscapes and medieval streets
Bocairent is a fortunate town, not only because of its cool nights but also because of its cultural and natural heritage. These two aspects make it an ideal getaway destination this summer.
National Geographic ranked it among the 50 most beautiful villages in Spain for its distinctive streets, squares, and perched houses, which are part of the town’s history and culminate in the Moorish fortress at the top of the village, where the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción parish church now stands.
From Bocairent’s Town Hall Square, you can set out on the so-called “Magical Route,” which takes in all the town’s highlights and other sites such as the Les Covetes dels Moros viewpoint.
A visit to Les Covetes del Moro is another must-do in Bocairent: a complex of about 50 artificial caves from the 10th and 11th centuries, now interconnected, which are the town’s main historical and tourist attraction.
