If it’s not in Valencia, it’s not top-notch. And when it comes to dance, the ballet companies that have performed at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, the Teatro Principal, and great figures of dance such as Nacho Duato prove it. And now, adding to all this is the arrival of Ballet of Lights in Valencia, the show that combines the most classical ballet with the most luminous staging to create the inevitable: a fairytale evening.
Ballet of Lights Valencia: what story can you see right now?
Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty has been falling asleep and waking up since the 14th century. A French narrative was followed by a Catalan poem and Charles Perrault’s version, followed by the one published by the Brothers Grimm and that of Roinson Planché and Richard Doyle. There is something about Aurora that makes her story timeless and perfect for interpretation through pirouettes and pliés with Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable music.
What is Ballet of Lights?
If you’re thinking of a classical ballet performance, yes… but no. Or, at least, not only that. Ballet of Lights is a live dance performance where timeless tales such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella are danced between pirouettes and pliés. And they do so in the most luminous way thanks to the dancers’ costumes, which are covered with countless points of light, filling the stage with pure brilliance (both real and metaphorical).
