Martín has dethroned Mateo as the most popular boy’s name in València in 2024, according to data published by the City Council’s Statistics Office, based on the Municipal Register of inhabitants as of January 1, 2025.
After three years of leadership, Mateo falls to second place, while Sofía repeats for the second consecutive year as the favorite name for girls.
The most popular boys’ and girls’ names in Valencia
Specifically, 59 children received the name Martín in 2024, ahead of the 53 named Mateo. Completing the male ranking are Lucas (50), Hugo (48), Alejandro (44) and Marc (42), the latter with a notable drop from second position in 2023 to sixth in the latest record.
Also noteworthy is the decline of names such as Leo and Pablo, who drop to 12th and 11th place, respectively.
As for girls, Sofia remains firmly in first place with 85 newborns bearing this name, 14 more than the previous year.
Vega is clearly on the rise, occupying second place with 45 cases, ahead of Olivia (44) and Lucia (41), who drops from second to fourth place compared to last year. Julia (36) and Martina (35) remain on the list of favorites, although the latter drops one position.
Other names that gained prominence in 2024 are María, who rises from 26th to 12th place, and Carmen, Emma and Lola, who tie with 30 cases. In contrast, Aitana continues its downward trend, going from leading the ranking in 2022 to now occupying the 22nd position.
