The LaLiga match that Valencia CF and Real Oviedo were to play this Monday at the Mestalla stadium has been postponed to tomorrow, Tuesday, due to the red alert for torrential rains decreed in the province of Valencia, according to Levante-EMV.
The match will be played at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Mestalla.
The decision was confirmed after a series of meetings between LaLiga, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and both clubs.
This Monday, the mayor of Valencia, María José Català, had submitted a formal request for the postponement of the match in order to “guarantee the safety” of fans and workers in the face of adverse weather forecasts.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) maintains the red alert throughout the coast of the province of Valencia, with a high probability of torrential rainfall that could accumulate large amounts of water in a short time this afternoon, coinciding with the scheduled time for the celebration of the match.
In view of this situation, and in line with other preventive measures adopted in the city such as the suspension of classes in schools and universities, the sports authorities have opted to avoid travel and mass gatherings of people.
