Valencia City Council will implement a special plan tomorrow, Wednesday , August 12, in connection with the total solar eclipse, which will result in significant traffic restrictions at various locations throughout the city.
This plan will operate in conjunction with the measure banning access to natural parks in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, as approved by the Valencian Regional Government. The plan aims to prevent crowds and uncontrolled tourism in rural areas where the risk of wildfires is at its highest due to high temperatures.
As part of this preventive measure, water cannons will be activated early in the morning in the Devesa del Saler Natural Park to cool the forest and reduce the risk of fire during a day of peak visitor traffic.
Which areas will be closed off and starting at what time
Access to the forested area of the Albufera Natural Park will remain closed throughout the day, except for residents, authorized individuals, and public transportation. The Devesa del Saler forest will also be completely closed as a preventive measure.
Access to nearby beaches and restaurants will be limited until 6:00 p.m. Starting at that time, the exit from Valencia via the V-15 ( which connects to the CV-500 or Autopista del Saler) will be closed , including the underpass and the service road on Avenida del Profesor López Piñero.
The CV-500 will also be closed in both directions before entering the forest area, and access from the V-30 will be restricted. All connections to Pinedo will likewise be closed.
At Malvarrosa Beach, the official viewing site, traffic restrictions will begin at 4:00 p.m. and may be extended depending on the number of people and vehicles.
How to get around: public transportation as the top priority
The Fire Department and Civil Protection authorities urge residents not to travel by car and to use public transportation to reach viewing locations. For those who cannot do without a private vehicle, it is recommended to monitor traffic via mobile apps such as Waze, Google Maps, or the Valencia City Council’s Geoportal, as major traffic jams and gridlock are expected on streets and highways.
The official viewing spots are concentrated along the coast: Malvarrosa Beach and Cabanyal Beach. To get there, municipal authorities recommend using EMT València buses or the Metrovalencia tram; both services have substantially increased their operations to meet the demand for transportation to the beaches.
