On September 5 and 6, the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Valencia will once again become a sporting arena, with the waters of the Marina de Valencia providing the setting for the Spain Sail Grand Prix. The capital of the Turia region takes over from Cadiz as the venue for the competition, joining a circuit of iconic cities such as New York, Sydney, and Dubai and becoming the tenth stop on a global calendar of 13 events. Tickets are now on sale: get yours here.
This Spanish Grand Prix marks the return of major sailing events to the Valencia Marina. In addition, there is great excitement to see Los Gallos in action: the Spanish team, led by Olympic champions Diego Botín and Florián Trittel, will compete in front of thousands of fans in what promises to be a weekend of sea, speed, and celebration.
What is SailGP?
To understand the magnitude of SailGP, you have to forget the image of slow, traditional sailing. We are talking about a global league that brings together the best teams in the world aboard F50s, 15-meter catamarans commonly described as “water fighters.”
Thanks to their design, these boats reach speeds of over 100km/h, often “flying” over the water. All this adrenaline-fueled technical display takes place just a few meters from the coast, a proximity that allows the public to see every maneuver with complete clarity.
How to enjoy SailGP in Valencia
The SailGP experience in Valencia has been designed as a festival that goes beyond what happens on the water. The activity is concentrated in the Grada Frente al Mar, an area with a direct view of the finish line, giant screens, and a leisure area with simulators and local cuisine. On the other hand, the proposal includes more exclusive options such as the VELA Beach Club, which integrates premium hospitality services and waterfront lounge areas, or the program for private boats, which allows the competition to be followed just 50 meters from the perimeter of the circuit with access to technical commentary via VHF radio.
