Summer has its classics—those plans, places, or meals where the how and why don’t really matter, but they always work. Among these, there’s one combination that’s foolproof: a sweet melon and a relaxing day at the beach.
But… what if we could make it even better? What if we enjoyed that same plan with one of the world’s best melons on one of the best beaches in the Valencian Community? Well, that plan is especially possible this weekend, just 40 minutes from Valencia.
This Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, the 12th Xilxes Melon Fair will be held—a must-attend event for lovers of quality produce and local cuisine. Stalls will be set up along the town’s seaside promenade from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. In addition to free tastings, workshops, and raffles, the fair will feature a live cooking demonstration by two Michelin-starred chefs: Rubén Miralles and Alejandra Herrador.
Two of the best beaches in the entire Mediterranean
The secret of the Xilxes melon is none other than its privileged setting: the marshland is a complex of wetlands that provides immense natural richness and supports agriculture thanks to its extremely fertile soil.
What’s more, this town is fortunate enough to be located next to two beaches that have been awarded the Blue Flag and the “Q” quality certification: Les Cases Beach and El Cerezo Beach (with accessible facilities for people with disabilities), right next to the boardwalk where the fair will be held.
With this combination of elements, the plan is very easy to put together: in the morning, we can enjoy a swim in one of the best areas of the Valencian coast, and in the afternoon, sample the best melons in the entire country.
