Autumn has begun and it has done it by the big door. And is that the same day that the winter schedule was adapted and began to darken earlier, the rain fell in a tremendous way throughout the Valencian Community and does not seem to be going to improve in the coming days.
Currently, there are 6 red alerts, extreme risk, in different parts of the Community, 8 major risk (yellow) and more than twenty yellow alerts for storms, rain and coastal storms. Therefore, the AEMET, the State Meteorological Agency, recommends to be very cautious and not to go near watercourses or wadis because of the danger of strong torrents of water.
In addition, 26 municipalities, including the University of Valencia, have suspended classes and the Port Authority has closed the port of Valencia.
As far as Valencia is concerned, heavy storms are expected from today that could last until Wednesday at noon, which is why the City Council has closed parks, gardens, municipal facilities that are within them and cemeteries.
The rain, meanwhile, will accompany us throughout the week. The day with less probability of rain in the capital of the Community will be Thursday, with a possibility of between 45% and 55%. The rest of the days, both before and after, the probability of rain is always above 90%. So just in case, don’t leave your umbrella behind, as you will need it.
Temperatures over the next few days, which this weekend have dropped to 13.5ºC, will continue to be low. That’s why it’s better to start taking the coat and winter clothes out of the closet, since, at least until Sunday, we will have this autumnal weather.
This meteorological phenomenon, a DANA (isolated depression at high levels), is popularly known as cold drop and Valencia will not be the only one affected by it, as the DANA will settle over the Peninsula most of this week, causing rains and storms.
